Hermine Anna Sammut

I was born in March 1965 in Vienna, the city of music and art. I grew up in a very creative family, my mother used to design hats for famous ice shows and my father used to be a technical draughtsman, which was the base of my creativity. In 1986 I got qualified as a teacher. Through self-teaching and attending specific courses such as paper making, airbrush, folk art, decorative painting, silk painting, stained glass, and pottery, I developed my artistic and creative skills and was permitted to teach the subject Art & Craft at schools. I used to teach Art, Crafts & Design, and Design of fashion jewelry at a secondary school and in evening schools for adults in Vienna. In 1995 I got married to a Maltese man and moved to Malta.

There I used to lecture at the Institute of Tourism Studies until 2003 when I was also introduced to the study program the subject: Art, Craft & Design for the hotel industry. After a 2 year working break, caused by my son’s birth in 2003, I became self-employed as a full-time artist.

At the same time, I started to conduct experiences for tourists where I would like to connect holidaymakers to Gozo in an arty way.

I also participate in & organize exhibitions locally and abroad, showing my contemporary and 3-dimensional artworks, sculptures, and paintings using “waste” as the main medium. My passion to reuse discarded material as a medium of expression has started in my early life when I couldn’t effort to buy art materials and tools.
